Dr. Sandin is a Marine Biology Research Division professor and the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation Director. His research focuses on how marine organisms interact, particularly in tropical coral reef ecosystems, aiming to balance fishing demands with the longevity of fisheries. He leads ship- and land-based expeditions to study the impact of human activities on coral reefs, which inspired the 100 Island Challenge, a regional study of coral reef health.
